This brain image dataset of pre- and post-resection images was used to generate the data presented in the paper Summarizing and Visualizing Uncertainty in Non-Rigid Registration. The patient is a 20-year-old male who hit his head and subsequently underwent cranial imaging which revealed evidence of a large ring-enhancing cystic lesion in the left frontal region. A portion of the lesion was heavily calcified. There was minimal surrounding edema. The appearance of the lesion was most consistent with a glioma. The patient underwent functional MRI imaging prior to surgery, which indicated that several speech areas were located adjacent to the lesion. Surgical procedure was an awake left frontal craniotomy and resection of tumor with VTI guidance, microscope microdissection and language and motor stimulation mapping. Final pathology report of the lesion was inconclusive but suggestive of a pilocytic astrocytoma or other low-grade glioma. More pre-operative data (fMRI/DTI) can be found here.
